Get Involved

Sure you're alums and are no longer students, but aren't you hankering to keep your hand in and make sure Band is just the way it was When You Were In Band™? Even though we are still a student-run band, with (fingers-crossed) little meddling involvement from the administration, alumni involvement is crucial to the maintenance of the LSJUMB. Alumni keep the institutional memory of the band alive, return to play with the band when we need it (particularly over summer and winter breaks), help out with reunions, and even make financial contributions! That's right – we want your time AND your money – who do we think we are? Here are some ways to stay klued and get involved:

The SBAB

The Stanford Band Alumni Board, founded in 1993 during the retirement of Dr. Art Barnes, works to harness the broad enthusiasm of the alumni base to best support the current band. In particular, they interact with the university on a regular basis, oversee the Barnes Fund (the foremost endowment for the LSJUMB), and have directed the campaigns both to endow the position of the Musical Director and to construct what is now Shak III. Questions about the SBAB, including interest in membership, can be directed either to Greg Louden, SBAB chairman, or to Alumni Relations.

Help Out with Reunion 2010

The next reunion isn't until 2010, so don't bug us about specifics yet, but if you want to be a part of the 2010 LSJUMB Reunion Steering Committee, contact Alumni Relations.

Visit Us

If you're hankering to jump back in the saddle, we rehearse Monday nights at 7:00 PM at Shak III. If you'd rather not drop in unexpectedly or want to meet up with the Band at one of our multitudinous events, contact your sexion leader.

Join Fartline

This esteemed e-mail list carries information of particular pertinence to Old Fartz, such as reunion updates, occasions on which the band could use some reinforcements from the ranks of the alumni, and various other notifications, such as Gusto plans (the young fartz vs. old fartz softball game). Let Alumni Relations know if you want in.

Contact Your Friendly Local Alumni Relations

AR (and maybe even the rest of the band) will smile at any old fart that wanders into the shak, no matter how decrepit you are (you may have to remind him of your name, though). You can tell him your wildest "When I Was In Band" stories long after your coworkers get tired of hearing them. In a word (or two), he is Alumni Relations, and he'd love to hear from you. Contact him here, or scribble a note to him on the back of a crisp twenty and drop it in your nearest mailbox.
